Problema Solution

A floor of a room is in the shape of square. It is to be covered with rectangular tiles that each have an area of 192 square inches.

If the length of the floor is 14 feet, how many tiles are needed to cover the floor?

Answer provided by our tutors

The area of one tile is:

A1 = 192 in^2

The area of the floor is:

A2 = 14*14

A2 = 196 ft^2

1 ft = 12 in

1 ft^2 = 144 in^2

A2 = 196*144 in^2

A2 = 28,224 in^2

To find the number of tiles needed we divide the area of the floor, A2, with the area of one tile, A1:

A2/A1 = 28,224/196 = 144 tiles

144 tiles are needed to cover the floor.
