Problema Solution

a man buys a plot of land at rs3,60,000. He sells one third of the plot at a loss of 20percent. Again, he sells two thirds of the left at a profit of 25percent. At what price should he sell the remaining plot in order to get a profit of 10percent on the whole?

Answer provided by our tutors

The man sold 1/3 of the plot with 20% loss, that is, he received:

0.80*(360,000)/3 = rs96,000

The man sold 2/3 of the left with 25% profit, that is, he received:

(2/3)*(2/3)*360,000*1.25 = rs200,000

Let 'x' represent the amount of money he needs to sell the remaining plot to get 10% profit on whole.

96,000 + 200,000 + x = 1.10*360,000
