Problema Solution
a man has a collection of dimes and quaters with a total value of $3.50. If hw has 7 more dimes then quarters, how many of each coin does he have?
Answer provided by our tutors
We know that:
1 dime = 10 cents
1 quarter = 25 cents
Let
d = the number of dimes, d>0
q = the number of quarters, q>0
The man has 7 more dimes then quarters:
d = 7 + q
The dimes and the quarters altogether have a total value of $3.50 = 350 cents:
10d + 25q = 350
We have the following system of equations:
d = 7 + q
10d + 25q = 350
