Problema Solution
a messenger goes on bicycle at 15km/h. Forty minutes later, another messenger is sent on motorcycle traveling at 40 km/h, to stop the first messenger from delivering the message. how far is the first messenger before being overtaken by the motorcyclist?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
v1 = 15 km/h the speed of the bicycle
t = the time of the bicycle
v2 = 40 km/h the speed of the motorcycle
t - 40/60 = the time of the motorcycle
Since distance = speed*time and both, the bicycle and the motorcycle, pass the same distance we have:
v1*t = v2*(t - 40/60)
15t = 40(t - 2/3)

........
t = 16/15 hr
v1*t = 15*(16/15) = 16 km
The first messenger is 16 kilometers far before being overtaken by the motorcyclist.
