Problema Solution

a painter mixes 5l of red with 3l of blue and got purple. how much of each colour must he mix to get 40l of purple

Answer provided by our tutors

Let 'r' represent the amount of the read color used and 'b' the amount of the blue color used.

r : b = 5 : 3 cross multiply

3r = 5b

The mix is 40 l means:

r + b = 40

We have the following system of equations:

3r = 5b

r + b = 40

......

r = 25 l

b = 15 l

25 liters of red and 15 liters of blue color must be mixed.
