Problema Solution

A portion of the road A climbs steadily for 210 ft over a horizontal distance of 2,549 feet. A portion of the road B climbs steadily for 172 feet over a horizontal distance of 1,925 feet. Which road is steeper?

Answer provided by our tutors

To compare the steepness of two objects (roads) compute the ratio:

vertical distance/horizontal distance

for each object. The object with the larger ratio is the steeper object.

Road A:

210 / 2549 = 0.0824

Road B:

170 / 1925 = 0.0883

Since 0.0883 > 0.0824 road B is steeper.
