Problema Solution

A rectangular prism has a length of 7 cm, a width of 4 cm, and a height of 212 cm.

The prism is filled with cubes that have edge lengths of 12 cm.

How many cubes are needed to fill the rectangular prism?

Answer provided by our tutors

The volume of the prism is:

V = 7*4*212

V = 5,936 cm^3

The volume of one cube is:

V1 = 12^3

V1 = 1,728 cm^3

To find the number of cubes that fit into the prism we divide V by V1:

V/V1 = 5,936/1,728 = 3.43

But since 12>7 and 12>4 the cubes do not fit into the prism.

Follows, the prism can not be filled with cubes.
