Problema Solution

A stunt driver was needed at the production site of a Hollywood movie. The average speed of the stunt driver's flight to the site was 160 mph, and the average speed of the return trip was 120 mph. Find the distance of the round trip if the total flying time was 7 h

Answer provided by our tutors

Let

v1 = 160 mph the speed of the flight to the site

v2 = 120 mph the speed of the return trip

t = the time of the flight to the site

7 - t = the time of the return trip

Since distance = speed*time and the distance traveled in each direction is the same we can write:

v1t = v2(7 - t)

160t = 120(7 - t)

........

t = 3 hr

v1*t = 160*3 = 480 mi

The distance of the round trip was 480 + 480 = 960 miles.
