Problema Solution
An inlet pipe on a swimming pool can be used to fill the pool in 33 hours. The drain pipe can be used to empty the pool in 34 hours. If the pool is 1/3 filled and then the inlet pipe and drain pipe are opened, how long from that time will it take to fill the pool?
Answer provided by our tutors
The rate of the inlet pipe is: 1/33 pools per hour
The rate of the drain pipe is; 1/34 pools per hour
Let 'x' represent the number of hours needed to fill the pool after it was 1/3 filled.
x(1/33) - x(1/34) + 1/3 = 1
