Problema Solution
at 5pm a train left a station and traveled west at 80 km/hr. Three hours later another train left raveling east at 100km/hr. At what time will the trains be 780 miles apart?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let 't' represent the time of the train traveling to east then the time of the train traveling to the west is (t + 3).
We will use the formula: distance = speed*time.

Sine the trains are traveling in opposite directions we have:
80(t + 3) + 100t = 780
........
click here to see the equation solved for t
........
t = 3 h
t + 3 = 3 + 3 = 6 h
6 hours after 5 pm is 11 pm.
The trains will be 780 miles apart at 11 pm.
