Problema Solution
From a point on a river, two boats are driven in opposite directions, one at 6 miles per hour and the other at 10 miles per hour. In how many hours will they be 48 miles apaart?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let
v1 = 6 mph the rate of the first boat
v2 = 10 mph the rate of the second boat
t = the time of the travel in hours
d = 48 mi the distance between the boats
Since speed = distance/time follows distance = speed*time
v1*t + v2*t = d
6t + 10t = 48
