Problema Solution

Hot dogs cost $2.50 and and soda cost $1.25. You have $25 dollars to buy you and your friends food and drinks. Write an equation to model the different numbers of hot dogs (x) and sodas (y) that you can buy. Then list 3 possible combinations

Answer provided by our tutors

2.50x + 1.15y = 25 multiply both sides by 20

50x + 23y = 500

x = 10 - (23/50)y

There are no integer solutions.

If the amount of money spent is less than 25 we have the following inequality:

2.50x + 1.15y <= 25

If we graph the inequality  we get:

Using the graph we can read the 3 possible combinations:

(5, 5), (5, 10) and (10, 5).
