Problema Solution

In a right triangle the leg opposite to the acute angle of 30° is 7 in. Find the hypotenuse and other leg.

Answer provided by our tutors

Let 'b' represent the other leg and 'c' the hypotenuse.

a = 7

cot 30 = b/a

cot 30 = b/7

b = 7*cot30

b = 7*√3

b = 12.12 in

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

c^2 = 7^2 + (7*√3)^2

c^2 = 196

c = 14 in

The hypotenuse is 14 in while the other leg is 12.12 in.
