Problema Solution
Kevin and Randy Muise have a jar containing 50 coins, all of which are either quarters or nickles. the total value of the coins in the jar is 6.10 how many of each type of coin do they have.
Answer provided by our tutors
A quarter is 0.25 and a nickel is 0.05. Let 'x' represent the number of nickels, then '50-x' represents the number of quarters:
0.05x+0.25(50-x)=6.10
x=32
50-32=18
So the jar contains 32 nickels and 18 quarters.
