Problema Solution

One wall of the bathroom is covered with tile arranged in rows. Each tile is a square with sides measuring 8 inches. The wall is 6 feet wide. How many tiles are in each row? What is the total area covered by one row of tiles?

Answer provided by our tutors

The area of one tile is:

8*8 = 64 in^2

The area of the wall is:

(6*12)*(6*12) = 5,184 in^2 (since 1 ft = 6 in)

The number of tiles needed is:

5,184 : 64 = 81 tiles

Each row will have:

6*12/8 = 9 tiles

The total area covered by one row of tiles is:

9*8*8 = 576 in^2 or

576/(6*6) ft^2 = 16 ft^2 (since 1 ft^2 = 6*6 in^2)
