Problema Solution

Right and left side are 22 feet long each. How long does the other side needs to be if the total is 60 feet

Answer provided by our tutors

The word problem statement is ambiguous, as two lengths are stated as 22 feet long but somehow 'the other side' should be added into it.  We can either assume that a 'middle side' is referred to or we assume that 'one of the sides' was 22 feet and 'the other side' was the left over piece from a 60 feet board... the wording of the problem appears to refer only to two pieces.

let 'x' represent the length of one side, then '22+x' represents the other side

22+(22+x)=60

x=16

16+22=38

So one side was 22 feet long, the other side was 38 feet long.
