Problema Solution
Ryan left the airport and traveled toward the ferry office at an average speed of 50 mph. Sometime later asanji left traveling the same direction but at an average speed of 60 mph. After traveling for 5 hours asanji caught up with Ryan. Find the number of hours Ryan traveled before asanji caught up
Answer provided by our tutors
When Asanji catches up both have traveled same distance from starting point.
Let Ryan travel 't' hours before Asanji starts.
We will use the equation distance = speed*time.
Ryan's speed = 50 mph
In t + 5 hours Ryan will travel a total of:
50*(t+5) = 50t + 250 miles
In 5 hours Asani will travel distance of:
60*5 = 300 mi
Since both traveled the same distance we have:
50t + 250 = 300

........
t = 1 hr
1 + 5 = 6 hr
Ryan traveled 6 hours before Asanji caught up.
