Problema Solution
A cold soda had the initial temp. of 36 degreesF. Jodi immediately went outside where the temp was a steady 93 degreesF. After 6 min. the temp of the soda was 43 degrees. Jodi had to run back into the house to answer the phone. What is yhe expected temp of the soda after an additional 12 min.? Do not round until final answer. Round to the nearest tenth as needed.

f we consider that temperature of cold drink rises at steady rate then
in 6 min it rose from 45 to 48 degree F = 3 degree F
Rise in 11 min will be in proportion. Let it be = x
Hence
Time Rise in temperature
6 min 3 degree F
11 min x degree F
Cross multiply
6*x = 11 *3
6x = 33
x = 33/6
x = 5.5
After 11 min the temperature of cold drink rose by 5.5 degree F
Hence new temperature
= 48 + 5.5
= 53.5 degree F
If the answer is 53.0 then i might have got it wrong somewhere.
