Answer provided by our tutors
Hi,
Let m < n be the two nubers.
we know that m+n = 17
and m = 2*n - 10
we substitute m in the first equation with its expression given by the second equation we obtain
(2n-10) + n = 17 then 3n - 10 = 17 then 3n = 17+10 = 27 then n = 27/3 = 9
the largest number is 9.
we substitute n in the second equation with its value we obtain: m = 2*9 - 10 = 8
hence the smallest number is 8
