Problema Solution
A road crew must clear a hill so that a new road can be built. They are able to clear 5 2/3 feet of the hill each day. After 10 days, the height of the hill is 50 feet. Find the equation in slope-intercept form of the line that represent the height of the hill after x days.
Answer provided by our tutors
the hill is being cleared, so clearing 5 2/3 feet per day implies the hill is shrinking in height each day by 5 2/3 feet
therefore, the starting height was 50 + 10 *(5 2/3) = 100 + 20/3 = 106 2/3
rate of change is -5 2/3 (negative because the hill is shrinking)
the linear equation would then be:
y=(-5 2/3)x + 106 2/3
