Problema Solution

One of the games at a carnival involves trying to ring a bell with a ball by hitting a lever that propels the ball into the air. The height of the ball is modeled by the equation h(t) =16t2+ 39t. If the bell is 25ft. above the ground, will it be hit by the ball? Use the quadratic formula to solve. x=(-b±√(b^2-4ac))/2a

If the bell is 25ft. above the ground, will it be hit by the ball? Use the quadratic formula to solve. x=(-b±√(b^2-4ac))/2a

Solution:

h(t) =16t2+ 39t = 25

16t^2 +39t-25 = 0

t = (-39+/-sqrt(3121))/32

t = 0.53, t=2.96

It will hit the ball,  t = 0.53s, t=2.96s
