A rectangle is constructed. The length of this rectangle is double the width. Then a new rectangle is made by increasing each side by 3 meters. Th perimeter of the new rectangle is 2 meters greater than four times the length of the old rectangle. Find the dimensions of the original rectangle.

Solution:

                         Let the original rectangle has length = L = 2W

                                                                            width = W

                          2(L + 3 + W + 3) = 4L + 2

                         2(2W + 3 + W + 3) = 4*2W+ 2

                      2W = 10

                        W = 5  meter

                       L = 10  meter
