The width of a rctangular room is 2feet less than one-half its length. If the perimeter is 56 feet, find the length and width.

Solution:

                 Length = L

                 Width = (L/2) - 2

             2[L + L/2 - 2] = 56

             3L/2 = 30

                 L = 20 feet

                  W = 8 feet
