Problema Solution

A florist wishes to make bouquets of mixed spring flowers. Each bouquet is to be made up of tulips at $30 a bunch and daffofils at $21 a bunch. How many bunches of each should she use to make 15 bunches which she can sell for $24 a bunch?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let t=number of tulips

d=number of daffodils

d+t=15

30t+21d=24(15)=360

d+t=15

30t+21d=360

10t+7d=120    (1)

multiplying both sides of d+t=15 by 10 we get

10t+10d=150       (2)

subtract (1) from (2)

3d=30

d=10

10+t=15

t=5

The number of daffodils is 10 and the number of tulips is 5.
