Jeremy and Paul can plant a garden in 4 hours if they work together. If each worked alone, it would take Jeremy 6 hours longer than Paul to plant the garden. How long would it take Jeremy to plant the garden if he worked alone?

Let, a=number of hours it would take paul to plant the garden
a+6= number of hours it would take jeremy to plant the garden
the algebric eqution would be a^2-2a-24=0
factoring the equation gives : (a-6)(a+4)=0
that is a=6 or a=-4
since negative value in time does not exist a=6
it would take a+6 hours = 6+6=12 hours by jeremy to plant the garden alone
