Problema Solution

after 2 hours of snowing, there was 2.5 inches of snow, after 6 hours there was 14.3 inches of snow. what is the equation? how much snow was on the ground if it snowed for 11 hours?

Answer provided by our tutors

t = time (hours)

y = inches of snow

Use point-slope forumula to find the equation:  slope = (14.3 - 2.5)/(6 - 2) = 2.95

y - 2.5 = 2.95(t - 2)

y - 2.5 = 2.95t - 5.9

y(t) = 2.95t - 3.4

After 11 hours:  y(11) = 2.95(11) - 3.4 = 29.05 inches of snow.
