Problema Solution

Suppose you purchased a $60 pair of shoes that is on sale for 40% off and a $40 that is 20% off. What percent of discount did you get on the total amount?

Answer provided by our tutors

Without discount:  $60 + $40 = $100

With discount:  $60(1 - 0.40) + $40(1 - 0.20) = $68

x = total discount

$100(1 - x) = $68

100 - 100x = 68

100x = 32

x = 0.32

You got a 32% discount on the total amount.
