Problema Solution
A plane can travel 419 miles per hour with the wind and 340 miles per hour against it. Find the speed of the wind and the speed of the plane in still air.
Answer provided by our tutors
let the spped of plane be P, and speed of wind W,
P + W = 419 ( with the wind, wind supports it)
P - W = 340
now, adding both equations, 2P = 759, so, P = 379.5 miles per hour,
and speed of wind will be, W = 419 - P = 419 - 379.5 = 39.5
So, P = 379.5 and W = 39.5
