Problema Solution

Radiation machines used to treat tumors,produce an intensity of radiation that varies inversely as the square of the distance from the machine. At three meters, the radiation intensity is 62.5 milliroentgens per hour. What is the intensity at the distance of 2.3 meters?

Answer provided by our tutors

let x denotes intensity of radiaton and y distance from machine

x = ky2  , where k is constant

as given 62.5 = k*9 gives k = 62.5/9

we have to find x ,when y = 2.3

x = (62.5/9)*2.3*2.3 = 36.74
