If you can cancel any numbers, then do so first. For example:

You can look at the 2 and 6 that are diagonal, and cancel 2 from each to get:

Then you can look at the 4 and 2 that are diagonal, and cancel 2 from each to get:

1/2 x 1/3 =

Then you still multiply across the top and across the bottom to get the answer:

1/2 x 1/3 = 1/6
