a t-shirt is launched from a height of 6 feet with an intial upward volecity of 72 feet per second. the t-shirt is caught 48 feet above the feild. how long will it take for the tshirt to reach its maximum height

Acceleration due to gravity:  -32t^2

Initial position:  6 feet

 

Trajectory:  -32t^2 + 72t + 6

 

Differentiate with respect to t and set to 0 to find time at which maximum height is reached:

 

-64t + 72 = 0

64t = 72

 

t = 1.125 seconds

 

After 1.125 seconds:  -32(1.125)^2 + 72(1.125) + 6 = 46.5

 

The t-shirt will reach its maximum height of 46.5 feet after 1.125 seconds.
