$3 = 300 cents
so
300 = 5*n + 25*q
simplify with 5
60 = n + 5*q
we know, that he received 20 coins which means
n + q = 20, so n = 20 -q, and we put this in the previous ecuation
60 = 20 - q + 5q
so q = 10, n = 10
he get 10 quarters and 10 nickels
