Problema Solution
A farmer bought a number of sheep for $6000. 20 sheep died during a drought. He sold the remaining sheep at $40 more per head than he originally paid. If he still made a profit of $2000, how many sheep did he buy?
Answer provided by our tutors
Let total sheeps he bought = x
Number of sheeps he sold = x -20
Let the original price be y.
So selling price = y + 40
He bought sheeps at price = xy = $6000
He sold at (x-20)(y+40).
Profit = xy-20y + 40x -800 - xy = 2000
40x -20y = 2800
2x - y = 140
2x - 6000/x = 140
x2 -70x - 3000 = 0
x= 100
