A subway sandwich has a bun which is 18 inches.
Suppose Jenny, Demi, and Sarah buy one these sandwiches and take it back to their room. Since they have different appetites, Jenny cuts the sandwich in such a way that Demi gets half of what Jenny gets and Sarah gets three-fourths of what Jenny gets. Find the length of each person's sandwich.

Jenny gets 4 / 9 of the sandwich or ~ 44% of 18 inches = 8 inches

Demi gets half of Jenny's and Sarah gets three-fourth's of Jenny's
By giving Jenny 4 / 9 Demi gets 2 / 9 and Sarah gets 3 / 9 of the total sandwich thus dividing the entire sandwich to each person
Therefore Jenny gets 8 inches, Demi gets half of that or 4 inches and Sarah gets three-fourths of Jenny's or 6 inches of the total
