let speed of airplane = x mi/hr

speed of wind = y mi/hr

against the wind:

speed = x-y

960/3 = x-y

=> x-y = 320

with the wind:

speed = x+y

=>960/8/3 = x+y

=> 360 = x+y

=>x+y+x-y = 320+360

=> 2x = 680

=> x = 340 miles/hr

y = 20 miles/hr
