Problema Solution
A collection of nickels, dimes, and quarters consist of 115 coins with a total of $12.75 . If there are 3 times as many dimes as quarters, find the number of each type of coins
Answer provided by our tutors
Let no. of nickels be x and quaters be y.
Then, no. of dimes=3y
x+y+3y=115
or, x+4y=115
Also, 5x+10*3y+25y=1275 (1 nickel=5 cenys, dime=10 cents, quater=25 cents and dollar=100 cents)
or, 5x+30y+25y=1275
or, 5x+55y=1275
Solving,
5x+20y=575
5x+55y=1275
or, -35y=-700
or, y=20
5x+20*20=575
or, 5x=575-400
or, x=175/5=35
Therefore,
Nickels=x=35
Dimes=3y=3*20=60
Quaters=y=20
