Problema Solution

Hi Can you please help me to find the inverse of the function if it exists.

f(x)=x^2-3x+1

Answer provided by our tutors

y=x^2-3x+1.

Now making RHS perfect square.

y-1=x^2-2*x*3/2. Add both sides (3/2)^2 =9/4.

y-1+9/4 =x^2-2*x*3/2+(3/2)^2.

y+5/4 =(x-3/2)^2.

(x-3/2)=sqrt (y+5/4).

x=3/2+sqrt (y+5/4), x=3/2-sqrt (y+5/4).

Now for finding out inverse function  interchnage x and y.

f^-1(x) =y=3/2+sqrt(y+5/4 0 or 3/2-sqrt(y+5/4).
