Problema Solution
Translate the following situation into an equation. Do not solve.
Machine A can sort products twice as fast as Machine C and Machine B can sort products at a rate of 300 products fewer per minute than Machine C. If together the three machines have an average sorting rate of 2,150 products per minute, how many products per minute can Machine C sort?
Answer provided by our tutors
let x=minutes machine C would take to finish the job alone
then x/2=minutes machine A would take to finish the job alone
then x-300=minutes machine B would take to finish the job alone
minute work rates as follows:
Machine C 1/x
Machine A 1/(x/2) =2/x
Machine B 1/x+300
sum of individual work rates= work rate when working together
1/x + 2/x +1/(x+300) = 1/2150
