Problema Solution

Hi, I have two other problems I could use some help on please. I really appreciate it.

1) The speed of train A is 80 mph slower than the speed of train B. Train A travels 190 miles in the same time it takes train B to travel 230 miles. Find the speed of each train.

The speed of train A is ? mph.

The speed of train B is ? mph.

2)Elena bicycles 8km/h faster than Dennis. In the same time it takes Dennis to bicycle 36 km, Elena can bicycle 60 km. How fast does each bicyclist travel?

Answers:

1.

   vb= 460 mph  (train A)

   va=380 mph    (train B)

2.

vd= 12 km/hr (dennis velocity)

ve= 20 km/hr  (elena's velocity)

Solution:

1.   ta=tb

     va=vb-80

     190/va=230/vb

    190/(vb-80)=230/vb

solving for vb you will get:

   vb= 460 mph

   va=380 mph

2. ve= 8+vd

   te=td

  36/vd=60/ve

   36/vd=60/(8+vd)

 solving for vd you will get:

  vd= 12 km/hr

  ve= 20 km/hr
