Problema Solution

A biochemist has two alcohol solutions. One is 20% alcohol solution and the other is a 50% alcohol solution. She needs 12L of a solution that is 45% alcohol. How many liters of each of the original solutions should she mix?

Answer provided by our tutors

0.2x + 0.5y = 5.4

x + y = 12

Solving we get  x = 2, y = 10

we should mix  2 L of  20%  and  10L of  50%
