Problema Solution

I need to find the domain and range for this equation.

Imagine you are at a gas station filling your tank with gas. The function C(g) represents the cost C of filling up the gas tank with g gallons. Given the equation

a. What does the number 3.03 represent?

b.

b. Find C(2).

My answer: C(2)=3.03(2)

C=6.06

c. Find C(9).

My answer: C(9)=3.03(9)

C=27.27

d.For the average motorist, name one value for g that would be inappropriate for this function’s purpose. Explain why you chose that number.

e.If you were to graph C(g), what would be an appropriate domain and range? Explain your reasoning.

Answer provided by our tutors

a) 3.03 is the price of the fuel per gallon.

b) C(2) plug 2 into the function:

C(2)= 3.03(2)= $6.06

C)repeat that for C(9)

C(9)=3.03(9)

C(9) =27.27

d) any negative value is inappropriate because you would never return gas to the gas station.

e) with that in mind the range and domain are both (0, positive infinity)

reason being line is y=mx

is line passing through origin and its slope m= 3.03

it is straight line showing nature of  x at  o to postive infinty
