time = distance/speed
let 'x' represent the distance driven at 45mph, then '1029-x' represents the distance driven at 53mph
we assume they left at the same time and therefore when they meet they have both driven the same amount of time, so we set their distance/speed expressions equal to each other:
x/45 = (1029-x)/53
solving for 'x' we have x=472.5
They will meet after driving 472.5 miles at 45mph:
472.5/45 = 10.5
They will meet after driving 10.5 hours
