Problema Solution

A square and a rectangle have the same perimeter the length of the rectangle is 4 cm less than twice the side of the square and the width of the rectangle is 6 cm less than the side of the square find the perimeter of each figure

Answer provided by our tutors

Let 'x' stand for the length of one side of the square, 'y' stand for the length of the rectangle, and 'z' stand for the width of the rectangle.

4x=2y+2z (perimeter of the square(4x) = the perimeter of the rectangle (2y+2z))

y=2x-4

z=x-6

Using Algebrator for x, y, and z, we get:

x=10 (side of the square)

y=16 (length of the rectangle)

z=4 (width of the rectangle)
