Problema Solution

A pole is seen from two points A and B. The angle of elevation from A is 58°. If ∠CAB=52° and ∠ABC=34°, and A and B are 100m apart find how far A is from the foot of the pole.

Answer provided by our tutors

we assume that point C references the foot of the pole

we call the line of intersection of AB with the ground level to be a point D and then imagine two right triangles: ADC and BDC

two angles in ADC are known: 58, the angle of elevation, and 52, angle CAB, so we solve triangle ADC first

...ADC, however, should be a right triangle but since 52+58 > 90 there is some lack of clarity in the original problem description, as dropping a line from point A to some horizontal line from which the angle of elevation is measured should result in a right triangle.

The problem description needs clarification.
