Problema Solution

If there were 100 plastic ducks in a tub and 52 yellow ducks and 20 black ducks were chosen by 72 blindfolded students, how many yellow ducks and how many black ducks would you expect to find in the tub?

Answer provided by our tutors

the probability of picking a yellow duck is going to be higher until there are an equal number of yellow and black ducks, so in predicting what duck would be picked, the yellow duck would always be the choice until there were an even number of yellow and black ducks, in which case it would be a 50-50 chance of picking one, followed by a better than 50 percent chance of picking the other

100-72 = 28

it is then reasonable to say that 32 yellow ducks were pick, followed by 20 yellow and 20 black ducks and the remaining 28 ducks are divided evenly between black and yellow ducks

it is reasonable to say that 14 black and 14 yellow ducks remain in the tub
