Problema Solution

A square courtyard has diagonal paths that are each 42m long. What is the perimeter of the courtyard, to the nearest metre?

Answer provided by our tutors

Let 'x' stand for one side of the square. We know that the diagonal of a square is equal to:

d=sqrt(2x^2)

Plugging in 'd' and solving for 'x', we get:

42=sqrt(2x^2)

x=29.70

We also know that the perimeter of a square is equal to:

perimeter=4x

perimeter=4(29.70)

perimeter=118.8 meters

To the nearest meter, the perimeter is 119meters
