Problema Solution

You want to make a tower out of building blocks; you only have enough blocks to make your tower 10 inches high. You have already built the tower 7 inches high, and you only have 5 building blocks left: all exactly the same size. How tall is each of the 5 remaining building blocks? Write an equation to model the situation. Then solve the problem.

presumably the blocks are being stacked on top of each other one-by-one

10-7=3, we have 3 inches remaining and we assume that the five blocks fill up that 3 inches

we have 5 blocks, with 10-7 inches left, so the inches per block would be:

(10-7)/5 = 3/5 = 0.6

each block is 0.6 inches tall
