Problema Solution
Last week my family and I went to a baseball game as a mode of recreation. The tickets were $20 each and the ticket provider had a $3 handling fee. The total for the family to attend the game was $103. How many members of my family attended the game? In addition if we all had a hot dog and and soda during the game which cost $9 per person, and we paid $10 for parking, what did the total game cost me?
Answer provided by our tutors
let 'x' represent the number of family members, and we assume that the ticket provider's handling fee applies to every ticket
103 = x(20+3)
solving for 'x' we have x=4.47, which is clearly not correct, so we now assume that the ticket handler's fee is a one-time charge of $3
103 = 20x + 3
x = 5
we find that 5 family members attended the game
total costs for the game:
103 + 5(9) + 10 = 158
the total cost would $158
