Problema Solution
Each day, I walk to work at a constant speed. I leave from home, and one-third of the way to work I pass a bank; today the clock at the bank reads 7:52 AM. Three-quarters of the way from home to work, I pass a store; today the clock at the store reads 8:02 AM. At what time was I halfway to work?
Answer provided by our tutors
8:02 - 7:52 = 10 minutes
it took 10 minutes to walk a fraction (3/4-1/3) of the way:
10 / (3/4 - 1/3) = 24
24 minute walk to work; the halfway point is 24/2 = 12 minutes
(3/4)*24 = 18 minutes into the walk at the 3/4 point, so 6 minutes earlier was the halfway point
7:52 + 6 = 7:58
at 7:58 you were halfway to work
