Two planes leav o'hare airport in Chicago at the same time. One flies directly east at 540 miles per hour. The other flies directly west at 720 miles per hour. How long will it take them to be 1890 miles apart ?

since the planes are flying in opposite directions, we sum their speeds to calculate the relative speed:
540 + 720 = 1260
distance = speed * time
time = distance / speed
1890 / 1260 = 1.5
in 1.5 hours they will be 1890 miles apart
